Warung sembako Mbah Karyaten berdiri sejak tahun 1990-an, awalnya Mbah Karyaten bertempat tinggal di Aceh kemudian ia dan suami ikut transmigrasi ke Palembang pada tahun 1989 mereka bekerja sebagai petani karet. Mbah Karyaten mempunyai 6 anak 2 anak laki-laki dan 4 anak perempuan, namun sayang anak yang kedua dan kelima ia meninggal dunia karena sakit. Ketika itu di daerah transmigrasi belum begitu banyak warung sembako, lalu ia dan suami memutuskan untuk membuat warung sembako. Dulu mereka bekerja bersama menjadi petani karet, hingga mereka mempunyai warung sembako hanya suami Mbah Karyaten yang bekerja menjadi petani karet. Mbah Karyaten diam di rumah menjaga warung, karena Mbah Karyaten orang yang aktif dan tidak bisa diam ia menjaga warung sembako nya sembari membuat sapu lidi untuk ia jual. Karena dulu tidak begitu banyak warung, warung Mbah Karyaten begitu laris hampir semua tetangga membeli sembako di warung Mbah Karyaten. Ia menjual banyak dagangan seperti perlengkapan mandi (sabun mandi, sikat gig, odol dan shampo) ia juga menjual bahan masak seperti (bawang merah, bawang putih, minyak goreng dll) tidak hanya sembako yang ia jual, ia juga menjual jajanan seperti keripik singkong yang ia buat sendiri, bermacam-macam roti dan aneka ciki lainya. Mbah Karyaten sangat bersyukur karena warungnya laris sekali, namun pada tahun ke tahun begitu banyak orang yang membuat warung sembako. Tidak hanya itu begitu banyak pula yang membuat warung makan, dulu warung Mbah Karyaten hanyalah sebilah bambu. Sampai pada tahun 1992 ia mampu membangun rumah tembok dan membenahi warungnya, hingga terlihat lbih bagus. Kini di tahun 2018 pun ia masih berjualan meski tidak terlalu laris seperti dahulu, tetapi cukup untuk menghidupinya sendiri karena sang suami telah meninggal dunia pada tahun 2005. Akhirnya rumah itu diberikan pada anaknya yang ke 3 dan yang meneruskan kembali dagangannya untuk membeli sembako adalah anak perempuannya yang no 3, jaman dahulu satu minggu ia bisa mendapatkan 200-350 ribu rupiah di Jakarta dulu itu begitu banyak. Lama kelamaan hasil perminggu tak seperti biasanya, karna sudah terlalu banyaknya warung sembako. Hingga sekarang pendapatan perminggu tidaklah menentu, tetapi ia tetap bertahan.
